As the country adapts to the recent rise of COVID-19 cases, imposing and reimposing restrictions on businesses statewide, Helping Hands Community remains more committed than ever to our top priority: the safety of our most at-risk populations. For this reason, we’ve officially launched background checks for all new volunteers, entrusting Checkr, Inc., a third-party background check provider, to handle the process.

In addition to certifying that they meet certain health requirements, volunteers will now be required to complete a BGC before they are able to access and accept requests for help. We believe that this extra layer of protection will result in a more safe and trustworthy experience for everyone who uses our platform. Members of our community who request help will now only be matched with volunteers who have successfully completed a background check (BGC).

Helping Hands Community has chosen to partner with Checkr because their innovative technology is highly transparent, can be tailored towards our unique needs, and is very efficient — most BGCs are completed in less than 5 minutes.

“Checkr has been a great technology partner in helping us get up and running quickly with a secure and fast background check that altogether helps keep our community safer during this pandemic”—Andy Tzou, product designer for Helping Hands Community.

After consenting to a BGC, individuals are directed to a Checkr website to provide their personally identifiable information (PII). Helping Hands does not collect or record any personal details provided for the BGCs—we only receive the final result of the process and grant access to our community accordingly.
